What to know before you choose.
What actually changes as the price goes up
Between R 2 587.50 incl VAT (R 2 250 ex VAT) and R 7 820 incl VAT (R 6 800 ex VAT) you are not buying more comfort in a straight line. You are buying three specific things.
The mechanism. The cheapest chairs use a permanent contact mechanism: the backrest tilts and locks in a few positions. Move up and you get a synchro mechanism, where the seat and back tilt together at different rates so your feet stay flat while you recline, with tension you set to your own weight. If somebody sits in a chair for seven hours a day, this is the line item that matters most.
Adjustment range. Entry chairs adjust height and not much else. Mid range adds height adjustable arms and lumbar support. Above roughly R 4 500 you get arms that move in four directions, a seat slide for leg length, and adjustable lumbar depth. In an office where people are different sizes, more adjustment means fewer complaints.
What it is built from. Nylon bases and standard gas lifts at the entry, aluminium bases and heavier duty components higher up. The Atlas Heavy Duty is the outlier: it is not a nicer chair, it is a stronger one, built for a higher user weight and for a chair that never gets a rest in a shift environment.
Mesh back or upholstered back
Mesh moves air, holds its shape, shows less wear and suits Cape Town summers in a room without air conditioning. It is the default for open plan and for anyone who runs warm.
Upholstered backs feel warmer and more formal, and they read better in an executive office or a boardroom, which is why the executive range is upholstered and the task range is mostly mesh.
There is no quality difference between the two. It is a comfort and appearance decision.
Choosing the fabric
Every chair comes in three fabric bands.
Band A is contract fabric: hard wearing, the widest colour choice, and the price you see on this page. Band B is premium fabric and PU, including wipe clean options that suit reception, healthcare and anywhere food is nearby. Band C is genuine leather, for executive and boardroom.
You can also supply your own fabric if you are matching a brand colour or an interior scheme. Tell us at quote stage.
Buying more than ten
Once you are past about ten chairs, three things change and they are worth planning for. Lead time matters more than price, because a floor of people cannot half move in. Fabric consistency matters, because dye lots differ and a repeat order six months later may not match, so order the whole floor at once where you can. And it is worth sitting in one before committing to ninety: a sample chair is delivered on free loan so the office can sit in it before committing to a floor.

How much does a good office chair cost in Cape Town?
A task chair that will last a working day comfortably starts around R 2 587.50 incl VAT (R 2 250 ex VAT). Between R 3 680 and R 3 910 incl VAT gets you a synchro mechanism and adjustable arms, which is where most offices land. Above R 5 405 incl VAT (R 4 700 ex VAT) you are buying full ergonomic adjustment.
How long does delivery take?
Two to three weeks for most seating, because chairs are made to your chosen fabric and options. Your quote carries a delivery date.
Do you deliver outside Cape Town?
Yes, nationally. Delivery outside greater Cape Town is quoted as a separate line.
Can I try a chair before ordering for the whole office?
Yes. A sample chair is delivered on free loan so the office can sit in it before committing to a floor.
What does the five year guarantee cover?
Almost everything we sell carries a 5 year guarantee against manufacturing defects in normal office use, fair wear and tear excluded. Stackable chairs and barstools carry one year, poly chairs three years, and on sit stand desks the five years covers the frame's electronics, motors and glides. The exact term for each product is printed on its page and on every quote line.
Can I get chairs in our brand colours?
Yes. Choose from the fabric bands, or supply your own fabric and we will build to it.
Do you take away our old chairs?
Yes. Old chairs and desks are removed if it is arranged beforehand.
Are the prices including VAT?
Every price is shown including VAT, with the ex VAT figure beside it. VAT is the standard 15 percent for business furniture, and your quote shows both.
